All events include:
ASTRIUM DISPLAYS AND MODELS
Talk to real space scientists and engineers, find out all you ever wanted to know about space. Watch footage of real launches, see scale models of satellites and find out about careers.
OTHER DISPLAYS
Local colleges and universities are invited to bring displays and send volunteers to talk to pupils. Last year we had a display of 3D images from Southampton University and we're expecting the University of Surrey to come this year too.
BRIDGET THE EXOMARS ROVER
We expect to once again host this full-size prototype robotic mars rover, part of a mission due to launch in 2016.
ASTRIUM PLANETARIUM SHOW – TO INFINITY AND BACK
Using INTECH’s real-time planetarium software to give a live flight through the solar system and beyond, adapted for your Key Stage. If you haven’t seen our world-class 17m dome yet, don’t miss this chance! This special show is delivered by real space engineers and followed by a Q&A session.
"Starting close to home, we look at some of the satellites that we depend on during our daily lives before visiting some spectacular planets in our own solar system and travelling to the edge of the known Universe! Along the way you will gain a sense of the sheer scale of space and an understanding of the orbital motion of some celestial bodies".
TEACHER GOODY-BAGS
Resources, information and freebies from Astrium, INTECH and our other partners.
EXTRA ACTIVITIES

KS2 extras:
BUILD YOUR OWN SATELLITE
So popular last year that this time we have timetabled slots to make sure nobody misses out! Models will be kept aside for pick-up at the end of the day. Real space engineers help you build your model and explain what it shows.
SPACE TRAIL
Children’s use of the exhibition is structured using a trail guide. Find out what our exhibits have to do with space and chat to our space experts
MARS EGG LANDER
Your mission is to design and build a spacecraft that will land an egg safely on Mars. Designs are tested by dropping them from the INTECH terrace! Workshop by Astrium space engineers.
ASTRIUM PUZZLE BOOK
One of Astrium’s space engineers is also a seriously talented cartoonist. Roderick Gladwish has created a fantastic puzzle book telling a story of a dramatic rescue at sea and how satellite technology is involved at every stage. The perfect post-visit resource, available for download. Example copies will be in your goody-bags (and there’s a chance there could be printed copies available for your school; watch this space).
----------------------------------------------------------------
KS3/4 extras:
SPACE TRAIL
Relating INTECH’s exhibits to space with particular emphasis on encouraging interaction with the space experts and displays.
ASTRIUM CAREER TALK – “NO PLACE LIKE SPACE
Shall we understand how space affects our lives here on planet Earth? Find out how everyday things like TV and important things like protecting the environment rely on space. Delivered by Roderick Gladwish, an Astrium space engineer.
UNIVERSITY AND COLLEGE DISPLAYS
Local post-16 colleges and universities will be invited to bring displays where students can find out how they can develop their interest through their educational choices.
----------------------------------------------------------------
Post-16 extras:
COSMOLOGY LECTURE: BLACK HOLES AND THE BIG BANG
Prof. James Vickers (Head of the Applied Mathematics dept, University of Southampton), gives an inspiring lecture demonstrating the importance of mathematics in this field.
UNIVERSITY DISPLAYS
Local universities will be invited to bring displays where students can find out how they can develop their interest through their educational choices.
STEMPOINT DISPLAY (for teachers)
INTECH holds the STEM Brokerage and SEAs contracts for Hampshire and the Isle of Wight. This means we can keep you up to date with developments and opportunities within the STEM Enrichment & Enhancement world, and offer you Science and Engineering Ambassadors (SEAs) to support your work in schools, who are both CRB checked and free of charge. Find out more at the display stand
